LOOK BEYOND THE VIEW

Picture an ordinary Tuesday.

The best way to explore a move is to think about your normal routine: where you shop, how you get around and who you spend time with.

Try the life before choosing the address. If possible, spend time in the neighbourhood you are considering. Explore it during the day and in the evening, and in a different season.
Your neighbourhood

Look at the exact street, access to shops and services, traffic, parking and nearby building work. Compare how an area feels on weekdays and weekends. Your daily route matters as much as the name of the town.

Your monthly budget

Build a budget from current quotes: rent or ownership costs, utilities, food, transport, insurance and the activities you enjoy. Include one-off moving costs and a reserve for the unexpected. Use your own figures rather than a general “cost of living” promise.

Getting around comfortably

Try the journeys you expect to make regularly. Check bus routes, taxi options, walking distances, hills, steps and lift access. If you plan to drive, explore parking and the routes around your chosen home.

Seasons and the home itself

Ask how the property handles summer heat, winter comfort, ventilation and damp. Check cooling, heating, shade and running costs. A short viewing may not reveal how a home feels through the year.

Community and a sense of belonging

Make room for the things that give your week purpose: neighbours, local groups, interests and a familiar café. English is widely spoken, while learning a little Maltese can help you connect with island life.

BEFORE MAKING A MOVE

BEGIN WITH YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES

Residence needs
a separate plan.

The route depends on your nationality, the purpose of your stay and your personal circumstances. Check the official requirements before making financial or moving commitments.

EU and EEA nationals planning to reside in Malta for more than three months are required to register their residence with Identità. Other nationalities should check the applicable residence route directly with the authority.
